ACTIVITIES OF THE GROUP OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING

From 1970 up to the present
1970  Secretariat office of the General Secretary of the "Associazione Italiana di Ingegneria Medica e Biologica" (A.I.I.M.B.). 
1971-1972  Took part as an operating unit in the Biomedical Technology Project of the Italian National Council of Researches (C.N.R.). 
1972  Organized the First Course on Biomedical Instrumentation under the special project of the Biomedical Technology of the C.N.R. 
1973  Organized the Second Course on Biomedical Instrumentation. 
1976-1979  Participated as an operating unit in the Biomedical Technology Project with sub-project "SENS4". 
1977  Organized in Sorrento the "Ist Mediterranean Conference on Medical and Biological Engineering" of the IFMBE. 
1977-1982  Established the "Centro di Ingegneria Biomedica e della Riabilitazione"(CIBR) conventioned with the University of Naples. 
1980  Organized in Naples a Convention on Elaboration of Information in Medicine: "data, biosignal and images." 
1982-1984   Participated as operating unit to the National Project MPI 40% entitled "Analizing the dynamic of the volontary and involontary movements for diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation". 
1982  Conducted an investigation study on the situation of the Electromedical Instrumentation in some USL of the Campania Region, conventioned both by the University of Naples and the Regional Pharmaceutical-Hospital Consortium. 
1983  Established the Centro-Sud Consortium for the Doctorate on Biomedical Engineering  
1983-1985  Participated as operating unit to the Biomedical Technology Project with sub-project on "Acquiring, maintaining and management of electromedical instruments (AC.MA.GEST)".  
1983-1985  Established in Naples the Nucleo on Biomedical and Rehabilitation Engineering Researches of CNR.(*) 
1985-1987  Participated as an operating unit to the National Project MPI 40% "Engineering of Motor Rehabilitation". 
1985  Preparatory survey Trip of Prof.M.Bracale in Kenya, Ethiopia, Yemen for the Training Course of technicians, sponsored by WHO-DANIDA-IFMBE. 
1986  Training Course of Technicians on Management, control and preventive maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment" sponsored by WHO-DANIDA-IFMBE in the National Research Institute of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 
1988-1990  Participated as an operating unit to the National Project MPI 40% "Engineering of Motor Rehabilitation-II". 
1988  Headed a project in establishing a center for maintenance of electromedical instruments in Ethiopia, sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.(**) 
1991-1993  Participated as operating unit to the National Project MURST 40% "Engineering of the Motor Rehabilitation III". 
1991-1993  Participated to the ERASMUS Project together with the University of Patras,Greece. 
1992  Organized:VI Mediterranean Conference on Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE), Capri, Naples-Italy. 
1992  Established C.I.B.R. together with "La Fondazione Don Gnocchi" in Salerno. 
1993-94  Participated to the E.C. concerted action "IMPROVE" in project "BIOMED I". 
1993-94  Participated to the E.C. project "TREAD" in Human capital and mobility programme. 
1995 Organized Health Telematics '95 "Health in the Information Society" - Ischia, Naples-Italy. 
1997 Prof. Bracale has been appointed by Italian Ministry of Health responsible of sub-project 4 "Telemedicine for the Emergency" within the G7 global project on health care.
1997 Prof. Bracale is the leader of the project "Radiological and Cardiological Teleconsulting from Ischia and Procida islands with Hospital of Pozzuoli and Giugliano (Napoli)".
1998 Prof. Bracale has been appointed Coordinators of TELEPLANS Project "Telemedicine for Citizen" - DGXIII European Commission.
1998 Prof. Marcello Bracale has been appointed Coordinator of Telemedicine Project "ISOLE" ASL NA2 Pozzuoli (Naples) Italy.
1998-99 Prof. Marcello Bracale is Responsible of Cooperation with the University of Southampthon financed to British - CRUI
2000 Prof. M. Bracale is the coordinator of Clinical Engineering activities at local health unit Napoli 2 (Electrical safety of elecro-medical devices and risks' evaluation plan)
2000 Prof. M. Bracale is appointed as member of Management Council and Scientific Technical Committee of Istituto Mediterraneo per la telemedicina in Sanita - I.M.TE.S.
2001 Prof. M. Bracale received the title of "Professor Honoris Causa" from the University of Cluj - Napoca.

(*) After 3 years of financial support, the Committee of Engineering and Architecture of C.N.R. had favored the establishment of a Research Center of CNR but for political reason it did not push through.

(**) Projected with a financial budget of 7,5 million of italian lire. After several survey trips for a feasible study the project was stopped because of political problems.
